Christian Fjerdingstad was born in Denmark in 1891. After an apprenticeship as a silversmith in Skagen, he founded his own workshop. During the First World War he decided to join the Foreign Legion, but after an injury he was demobilized in 1915. He settled in Fontenay-aux-Roses in France where he met the French artist Fernand Léger. Léger encouraged him to participate with the Salon d’Automne - a French exhibition dedicated to Art. The exhibition became a huge succes for Fjerdingstad when the famous fashion designer Jacques Doucet bought some of his silver pieces. From 1924 to 1948 Fjerdingstad achieved great succes as Art Director for the world-renowned Christofle brand.
